Buying a Home Theater Receiver - What to Look For

As the central component of any home theater system, the home theater receiver is one of the most important pieces of equipment you can buy. This receiver is also known as an AV receiver, or surround sound receiver, because it includes the majority of the inputs and outputs required for setting up the home theater system, from speakers to the TV set itself.A good receiver will serve as a tuner for receiving AM/FM and satellite radio, as well as high definition radio. It will control the different audio and video sources that can be used, including the DVD player, the CD player, and the VCR. It will also come equipped with a multi-channel amplifier for the transmission of surround sound signals. Be sure and check out the power ratings of this amplifier. Higher wattage capability per channel does not automatically equal better sound.

The overall sound level of the receiver is critical to the quality of your home theater experience. Decibels are used to indicate the sound level produced by a receiver. To make sure your receiver doesnt emit background noise or distort sound, look for one with about 50 watts per channel (WPC) with minimal distortion levels. Keep in mind that a receiver with a distortion rating of 10% is going to sound terrible! A receiver rated at .01% for distortion levels is ideal. Usually, distortion information is indicated by the acronym THD, or total harmonic distortion.

Yet another factor to consider where receivers are concerned is signal-to-noise ratio. This number indicates the amount of sound in contrast to the amount of background noise. A large ratio indicates that important sounds like dialogue and music will be effectively isolated from annoying background noise. Signal-to-noise ratios are indicated in decibels. Look for a ratio of 70 decibels when buying a receiver.

A factor called continuous power is also important. This is the capability of the receiver to work to its fullest power over an extended period of time. Continuous power is indicated by the acronym RMS. The RMS will give you the power capability of the component, including its potential for generating sound at various levels over an extended duration.

Dynamic headroom is another term shoppers should be familiar with. Dynamic headroom refers to the power of the receiver to generate sound at particularly high levels for brief periods of time, during a music crescendo in a movie, or when loud sound effects occur. The ability to accommodate sudden increases in sound is an important factor to look for in a receiver. Decibels are used to indicate dynamic headroom. Look for dynamic headroom of three decibels when shopping for a home theater receiver.

LCD Vs Plasma - What's The Difference?

So you are contemplating about getting a large screen television to hang in your keeping room. It can get very frustrating with all of the television manufacturers, model numbers, features and styles to select from. As we review at this together you will see that there is no "one size fits all" TV here, as you will see that it depends on several factors. In this article we will look into the most commonly asked question.

So Should I Get A Plasma or LCD TV?

1) What size of a screen will you be selecting?
Both the LCD & Plasma screens are available in up to 65” now. Are you considering a TV bigger than 50"? I believe you will find that with Tv's larger than 50" you will get a better deal on a plasma than a LCD. But here's the good news…LCD’s are becoming less expensive every day.

2) What will the lighting situation be in your TV room?
The reason I mention this to you is that the degree of sunlight that enters the room will play a role when choosing your flat panelwall mount television set. The reason I mention this is that the plasma’s glass screen can reflect plenty of direct sunlight. So as you can imagine sometimes this can be an issue in very bright rooms. Did you know-- direct sunlight can also contribute to a washout of color. Even indirect or ambient lighting can cause a contrast ratio reduction, especially in black colors produced on the screen.

Now we will talk of one of the LCD's key benefits, since the LCD comes with a plastic matte screen that reflects less light. So if you have a very bright room-- the LCD is probably your best choice. So score a point for the LCD here.

3) Lets discuss your seating arrangements.
The reason I ask is that unfortunately, when you sit at a funny angle from the screen you will get a faded LCD picture. So this may be an important thing to consider when arranging your furniture in your TV room. Sometimes based on the the amount of wall space and windows you have…You really don’t have much of an option. So think carefully about the trade off here. You tend to see some brightness and color shift when you're on too much of an angle with LCD’s. (Thankfully LCD designers are burning the midnight oil to try to find a solution to this. Here's some good news for you plasma fans, a plasma can be viewed with a fairly solid picture from almost an angle. So score a point for plasma's here. Since technology is changing minute by minute and quality varies from manufacturer to manufacturer (and model to model) I would suggest a side-by-side comparison with several flat screens you may be thinking about. Try to make believe where your seating would be so you can watch it from the estimate angle you will be using at home--and simply judge for yourself.

These are just a few concerns to think about when picking a television for your home.

How Do You Find Good Affiliate Products For Your Home Business

As there are thousands of affiliate products in the online market you really need to choose the right ones that suit your business program or the strategies that you currently focus on.

Before I touch on about how you can find good affiliate products for your Home Business, it is important to understand what are the attributes of a good affiliate product. A good product is one that sells phenomenally and isn’t likely to stop anytime. Finding good products may be a challenge for you, and you do want quality products with a low refund rate so that your business remains profitable. On the same breath do not forget that the prospective buyer never sees the product until he buys it, so quality isn’t really the entire picture.

Resale Rights

There are basically two types.

Basic Resale Right: which gives you the right to resell the product. When one of your customers buys this product, he owns the product for his personal use.

Master Resale Right: which gives you the right to resell the product as well as to sell the resale rights for the product. When one of your customers buys it, he owns this product and at the same time he can also sell the right to resell the product to his own customers.

Having resale rights to a product can give you an edge over others but more importantly it may present you with a good strategy when you offer it in addition to another product that you are promoting. An example would be to give away a free e-book or sell at a discounted price, if customers purchase your main product.

Sell Other People’s Products

Don’t try to create your own products unless you know what you are doing. The rational here is that it takes a long time to create new products and even for seasoned marketers, you would be starting without a track record. It is a bad approach to try to manufacture demand for something people don’t really want. In reality, it is harder to generate demand than to satisfy demand.

Which Affiliate Company To Focus On

My recommendation is to sell or promote affiliate products. I would recommend visiting each affiliate network before you make a decision. It may be easier to just focus on one affiliate network and few products so that you do not overwhelm yourself in the beginning.

There are several options for locating affiliate products to sell. One of the best places to look for affiliate products is a site called Clickbank. I highly recommend it as one of your options to make online profits and their commission rates on average run anywhere from 10% -75% per each sale made.

Research Your Niche

You will also need to do a little research to determine your niche to target the type of affiliate products people are searching for in search engines. Your goal is to find something lots of people search for, but doesn’t have ridiculous competition and you’ve got a good target market for your Internet Marketing business.

Google Takes Over the Free World

You may not have seen ads that Google is running on your YouTube screen, but chances are, you will soon. Google Inc., which recently acquired YouTube, started testing overlay advertisements this week. The ads will appear after a 15 second interval across the bottom fifth of the video screen as you watch the clip. The ad space, which is partially transparent so it does not completely obstruct the view of the video showing underneath it, disappears after being displayed for 10 seconds.

Reaction from YouTube users is mixed. YouTube has been providing a service that users tend to think of as free, but it is not, and never has been, free of advertising. This is simply more blatant because it sits on the screen along with the video you are watching.

Since acquiring YouTube, Google has sought an alternative to the standard ad format for web videos, that is advertising at the beginning or advertising at the end of a clip. The company selected this ad format as the least intrusive to the viewer. In-video ads tested better than pre-rolls - commercials tacked on to the beginning of the clip - according to Google. When a viewer clicks on an ad, the clip itself pauses until the viewer returns to it.

The new ad format will seem familiar at least. It mimics what we see on television, secondary events which cover the bottom fifth of the television screen promoting other shows during the one you are watching. That will likely make the introduction of the new ad format a lot easier to accept for most users. And on second viewing of the same clip, the ad won't appear again.

YouTube is taking care not to unnecessarily alienate its 130 million subscribers, at least not right away. The ads can currently only be viewed on a limited number of content-appropriate clips, and currently the advertisements only represent a select handful of elite advertisers.

The company has to walk a fine line with them as well. Because so much of YouTube's content is user generated, even clips that are free of copyright violations could still be questionable content, inappropriate for or unacceptable to certain advertisers to suddenly find their brand names associated with it. The company will have to find a way to guarantee to advertisers that ads will only run on completely content-appropriate videos.

During the test launch, YouTube identified a select group of content owners who were willing to host the ads on their videos. Google announced that it will share ad revenue with these partners. Google will charge advertisers for every 1,000 times the ad appears, and has tantalizingly offered a cut of that revenue to content owners who want to cash in. Though to this point, there's no guarantee that the offer to host advertising will be extended to just anyone.

In the short term, Google has to gauge reaction from YouTube's hardcore fans, but more importantly, the company has to determined whether the model can be profitable, for itself and for its advertisers. Preliminary results, according to Google, suggest that the overlays are in fact generating a higher click-thru percentage than traditional advertising. But how much of that is the novelty of the format is unknown. And how quickly will YouTube users become blind to that form of advertising if it starts showing up in every single video? As any good internet marketer knows, click-thrus do not equal sales conversions, something else that Google has to track in order to keep its advertisers invested in the experiment.

No matter how the YouTube fandom reacts, the new ads are hardly the end of the world. If anything, users need to be prepared for a much wider launch of the ad format coming soon. So far, Google has said it will stay away from ads on the iPhone or AppleTV, and the YouTube ads currently only appear to users in the United States. But Google has to justify its $1.65 billion investment in YouTube, and has made it clear that some form of advertising on its videos was the inevitable result. If the last five years have proven anything, where there is a market, Google ads are sure to follow.

Free iPod Movie Downloads

First of all, let me tell you that it is true that you can get free iPod movie downloads online without paying any pay-per-download fees. The only problem right now is to find the right resources in order to start downloading. Second of all, let me tell you how I found a way to get iPod movie downloads for free.

About 3 months ago I was looking for a way to get free iPod movie downloads but I couldn't really find anything that is worth joining, because most of the sites were forcing me to pay for ever movie I wanted to download, which made me completely pissed off.

Until recently, I saw an ad somewhere on Google, which claimed to deliver iPod movie downloads for free with lots of bonuses, free video converter and many other free downloads like music and games for iPod. Although, I was a little bit skeptical because that is way too good to be true, but I decided to try it out anyway.

I must admit that I have not been disappointed, I was very surprised when I joined my first iPod download service web site which provides with free iPod movie downloads, free iPod game downloads and free iPod music downloads. The service is truly amazing, I can download everything I want and even everything I don't want. I have a 3Mbit connection and I always download at a full speed, which makes it very fast and reliable.

I download free iPod movies within minutes, takes around 5-10 to download a movie for my iPod, oh, and I am not talking about songs, because those take seconds to download. The best part of this is that I get all downloads for free, I don't pay any pay-per-download fees, or any additional fees. This is even 100% legal and safe. This is literally the best way to get free iPod movie downloads online.

I am very thankful to the people who created such a good service, because I am saving so much money with an iPod download service that I lost count. This is my secret, if you want to get free iPod movie downloads then join an iPod download site with unlimited downloads. Free iPod movie downloads are available to everyone and in every country.

Feel free to check out the download service I am using.

Free iPod Movie Downloads with iPod Net Downloads. I am Earl Bennett and iPod Net Downloads is the best iPod download service that I have tried so far.

Digital Radio- The New American Revolution

Americans are nothing if not selectively fickle. It took almost no persuasion for them to abandon their analog landline technology-based telephones, camera, and record players in favor of digitally based alternatives.

But when it comes to their listening pleasure, Americans have been fighting

the digital revolution with as much gusto as they fought the American one. They are however, beginning to come around. Having spotty reception, or none, on long commutes or when in the back country on a recreational outing, or simply because they live in a particularly reception-unfriendly area has finally made many Americans start to take notice of their digital radio options.

The first digital radio alternative is satellite radio. Both Sirius and XM Satellite radio have eliminated the commercials from their digital radio transmissions and are beaming their broadcasts into the automobile receivers of millions of US drivers, no matter where they are located. The glitch is that the service is subscription only, and many older cars do not have the satellite digital radio receivers. And in some large urban areas, the reception is lacking, although Sirius and XM are working on fixes for their problems.

But between them Sirius and XM have still managed to collar only fifteen million of the estimated two hundred and thirty million AM/FM listeners in the US. The two companies have applied to the FCC for permission to discuss a merger, which will cut costs for both. But even a single entity may never move satellite digital radio beyond the niche stage.

The real up-and-comers in the US digital radio field appears to be local radio stations, both because they do not charge their listeners, and because the price of digital radio receivers is beginning to drop rapidly. At the beginning of 2006, a digital radio receiver cost a minimum of $500; now the most expensive are half that. With rebates it is frequently possible to find a digital radio receiver for under $100.

Hybrid digital radio is the result of combining digital power with the regular broadcasting of an AM or FM station. It costs a traditional broadcasting station upwards of $100,000 to make the transition to Hybrid Digital technology, and even then they have to pay royalties to iBiquity, which developed the process. But more than 1300 radio stations have either bought, or plan to buy, the necessary equipment.

Mongolia a New Place to Invest in Real Estate?

Compare Insurance Quotes and Save!

When most people think of Mongolia, Genghis Khan is among the first things that come to mind. That and cold barren wasteland containing more livestock than humans. But now, Mongolia is becoming known for something else - foreign investment.

Seasoned overseas property investors know the time to invest in a housing market is before the rush. This fact means that some emerging markets may have not quite developed in terms of infrastructure. When economic indications show that improvements are on its way coupled with demand for housing investors need to sit up and pay attention. Profits are made on the purchase price and buying real estate before the demand can be a rewarding business.

The continuing economic growth in China has finally reached Mongolia where, the economy grew over 10% in 2004. Solid economic growth is expected over the next few years, especially in the mining industry, which accounted for 12% of Mongolia's GDP in 2004.

The potential for growth over time is great, as the housing market has not caught up with demand. Roughly half of the Mongolians who live in the capital city of Ulan Bator still live in traditional nomadic dwelling called ger. And despite building 3,500 units last year, there is a shortage of residential units available.

Between the influx of foreign personnel and the demands of the native population, it is unlikely that the housing market will suffer from oversupply of units anytime soon. Residential development is not occurring that quickly, and the market has not become a focus for foreign investment. And since demand will almost certainly continue to outstrip development over the next few years, returns on invest will probably remain solid over that time.

Average rental prices are also solid, allowing foreign investors a quick return on investment properties which usually generate positive income equal to a considerable percentage of the total investment. Luxury developments rent at about US$900 at the low end and may go as high as US$4,000.

This means that opportunities for foreign investment in and development of residential units could prove to be lucrative over the long haul. And in fact, capital growth of property prices and strong rental returns has begun to draw foreign investors from Britain. The Times newspaper from the UK reports that high property costs at home are encouraging investors to look abroad for better returns on their investments. And some of those investors are looking at countries such as Mongolia.

While this particular market may not be for everyone, investors who have some money they can use for higher-risk investments may wish to consider the Mongolian housing market for investing in residential development. But leave the goats at home.

Home Interior Design Tips on Decorating your Space with Wall Art

Compare Insurance Quotes!

How to Decorate your Space with Wall Pictures

If a room in your house lacks character, by simply placing some fine art prints on the walls can actually make quite an impact. Wall pictures are a necessary accessory in your home and are great to tie in with the room's style and color accent. Before you go off to buy some new pictures for your walls there are a few things you need to plan and decide upon. Here is a home interior design guide on how to decorate your space with wall art.

Shop for Wall Art by Room

The kind of home you have and the mood, ambience and style of decor you create, should be perfectly designed to suit your lifestyle. Deciding on a style for your room should be determined by the lifestyle you choose and not by what's the latest home interior design trend.

Whichever room you are wanting to decorate, whether it be your bedroom, living area, kitchen or office space, you need to decide what you want to get out of that space. For example:

  • do you want to hold dinner parties or entertain?
  • do you want a quiet retreat to get away from the hustle and bustle?
  • Is this an area for the kids to play in?
  • Is this a room for your hobby?

Once you have decided what you want to use the room for, you can now choose a color theme to suit the function of the room. For example, mellow greens and neutrals for your 'quiet retreat room', lively yellow for the kids room, or pale tranquil blue for your office space.

So far we have established the function and color of the room in question, this then gives us the basis on choosing the right art prints for the area.

For example:

  • bright colorful cartoon pictures for the kids room
  • mellow pastel floral pictures for your quiet retreat area, or
  • tranquil landscape and scenic pictures for your office space

Choose your Style

Like paint color, artwork can immediately establish or change a room's mood. Not only can it pull the room together, but you can use it to create a style uniquely your own.

  • traditional & classic
  • modern
  • contemporary
  • fun & entertaining
  • casual
  • romantic

The style of the room is totally dependent on your own personal taste and this is the time when you can inject your own personality into the room through artwork and textured accessories.

Suggested art picture styles:

Fun & Entertaining: Pictures can include bright colors both in the print and on the frame. Fun and entertaining pictures can include kittens and puppies, or comedian actors such as the Three Stooges or Laurel & Hardy.

Modern: With the strong black accents in the framed iron-work and the tapestries, striking black and white photos are a natural choice for a modern and sophisticated look.

Calm Retreat: To reinforce the mood of a nestled, cozy retreat, use artwork with neutral, earthy colors and a horizontal landscape subject.

You can even mix and match different styles to create a unique style of your own. For example, frame traditional black and white photo prints in a modern black iron frame.

Arranging and Hanging your Pictures

In order to get the maximum effect of your wall pictures in terms of adding character and a focal point to the room, you need to decide where and how you want to hang them.

Here are some suggestions to help you decide how to get the best effects from your pictures:-

Modern Gallery Look: To create a modern art gallery feel, particularly nice in hallways, lobbies and stairwells, give each piece ample breathing room. Stand at the center of the first piece and take one swift, or two small steps along the wall. This is a good center for the next piece.

Above a Sofa: When placing art above furniture such as a sofa, you need to hang the picture about six to nine inches above the sofa, or at eye level.

Cluster Arrangements: Tightly group an even number of pictures together to give a statement or a focal point. This works on either large or small wall spaces, depending on the look you want.

In a row: By placing an odd number of pictures in a horizontal line to each other gives balance and the sense of space. This works well in hallways or stairwells.

By deciding where and how to hang your pictures, whether it be a tight cluster or a single print above a sofa, you can then determine the size and shape of the pictures you need to buy.

When you have decided on the room's function, color and style, you are in a much better position to go shopping for wall pictures that fit in with the overall theme.

Summary

Wall pictures are an underestimated home interior design accessory. This is probably because most people do not know what to do with their pictures in order to get the maximum effect in a room. Before you go hanging up your pictures make sure you plan ahead what you want to get out of that room. Decide on the function, style and color of the room first before you buy your artwork. By doing this you are in a much better position to buy the right type of art picture to fit in with the theme and color accent of your room.
